Byram School closed in 1978 and remained unoccupied until converted to moderate-income housing (McKinney Terrace) in 1988. In 1985, in an effort to ensure that the memorial plaques would be protected during the renovation and construction to transform Byram School into McKinney Terrace, the 9th District Glenville Vets removed the plaques. By Memorial Day 1986, the plaques were returned to the base of the sycamore trees on the grounds of Byram School, dedicated in 1989 as Eugene Morlot Memorial Park.
