JOSEPH DOMINICK CRUCITTI

GREENWICH TIME, JUNE 8, 1945

Corp. Crucitti, Reported Missing, Now Listed Killed

Two blue service stars, proudly hanging in the windows of two homes for a Greenwich soldier, became gold stars yesterday.

The stars are for Corp. Joseph D. Crucitti. 24-year-old gunner on a B-29 Superfort, previously reported missing in the Saipan area on Jan. 23.

Corp. Crucitti was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Domenick Crucitti of Rock Ridge, and the husband of Mrs.  Marion Crucitti, now living at 73 Atlantic St., Stamford.

Mrs. Crucitti was notified in a War Department telegram from Washington yesterday that her husband is listed as dead. Mr. and Mr. Crucitti were childhood sweethearts. They were graduated together from Greenwich High School in 1940, were married shortly after and are the parents of a two-year-old son.

Corp. Crucitti entered service on Nov. 5, 1943, and was sent overseas in September 1944, when the large-scale B-29 attacks on Japan were instituted. He was reported missing after a mission.

Before entering service. Corp. Crucitti was employed at the Vought-Sikorsky aircraft plant in Stratford where he was engaged in experimental and development work with Corsair fighter planes for the U.S. Navy.
